A dynamic UPI QR code payment is a unique QR code generated for each individual transaction, pre-loaded with the exact payment amount. When a customer scans the code using any UPI app, they are directed to approve the precise amount without needing to enter it manually. What is the difference between a dynamic QR code and a static QR code for payments?
A static QR is a fixed sticker where customers must manually type in the amount and show you a screenshot. A PhonePe Dynamic QR is unique to every order; it comes pre-filled with the exact amount and a specific Transaction ID, making reconciliation 100% automated and error-free.
Do my customers need to have PhonePe to scan and pay using PhonePe Dynamic QR?
No. While it’s optimized for PhonePe’s 700M+ users, our Dynamic QR is interoperable. Your customers can scan and pay using any UPI-enabled app, including GPay, Paytm, BHIM, or their preferred banking app.
Can I generate dynamic QR codes without an API — from the app or dashboard?
While Dynamic QRs are typically generated via API for seamless POS integration, you can also generate them through the PhonePe Business Dashboard or App for individual transactions. For large-scale enterprises, we recommend the API route for real-time automation.
How long does a PhonePe dynamic QR code stay active before it expires?
By default, you have full control. Through our API, you can set the expiresIn parameter from 60 seconds up to 1 month. For most retail checkouts, a 2–5 minute expiry is recommended to maintain security and clear the POS for the next customer.
