Frequently Asked Questions
What is the transaction limit for UPI AutoPay?
The standard limit for UPI AutoPay is ₹1 lakh per transaction. However, for specific high-value categories like insurance premiums, mutual fund investments, and credit card bill payments, the limit has been enhanced up to ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh depending on the merchant's verification status and category.
How long does mandate setup take for customers?
Mandate setup is instant. Once the customer authorizes the initial request using their UPI PIN, the mandate is registered in real-time. Future payments will then be triggered automatically based on the scheduled frequency.
What happens if a debit fails due to insufficient funds?
If a debit fails, the transaction is declined by the bank. PhonePe PG allows merchants to set up custom retry schedules (e.g., retrying after 24 hours or a few days). Customers typically receive a notification about the failure so they can load funds or pay manually to avoid service interruption.
Is UPI AutoPay different from eNACH?
Yes. While both handle recurring payments, they differ in speed and setup: UPI AutoPay: Fully digital, instant setup via UPI PIN, and higher success rates for mobile users. eNACH: Often requires net banking or debit card authentication and can take T+2 to T+7 days for mandate activation.
